5 Ways to Get Your Feet Wet With 1-to-1 iPads
…and type in the teacher’s Socrative room number. The teacher chooses Start Quiz. Select the quiz you want to administer from the saved quiz drop-down menu. Students will type in their own names at the start of the quiz. Want to motivate and excite students? Project the quiz from your teacher login view for the whole class to see, and select “Teacher Paced Quiz”. That way, students will see the live results for each question through bar graphs that… Continue reading
Using ThatQuiz Before “THE Quiz”
…entering class, students zapped a QR-code which took them to our class ThatQuiz URL. (Note – ThatQuiz is FREE, awesome, and allows teachers to easily set up password-protected classes, generates quick quizzes on all sorts of skills and concepts, AND allows teachers to design their own assessments. Much love to ThatQuiz here.) Students were prompted to log in to their individual accounts and take the (formative) quiz on their iPads while I spied on… Continue reading
Thatquiz.org: A Great (iPad-Friendly) Freebie for Skill Practice & Formative Assessment
…ite justice here! My understanding is that folks can also create their own quizzes using thatquiz, and that there is a whole level of this website that I haven’t explored yet! My uses are primarily for skill and concept review and practice AFTER something has been taught. I am sure there is more I could be doing with this awesome site, and that is why I hope a curious reader will tell me more about untapped features that will benefit my students!… Continue reading
TRUE or FALSE? Independent Events… and Socrative
…g asked to make the choice… do you choose TRUE or FALSE? After the verbal “quiz” was over, it was time for students to “grade” their own papers… against an arbitrary answer key that had been previously created by the teacher. After students scored these so-called quizzes, the teacher would ask if anyone got a “perfect paper”. Literally no one did. But, it was a wonderfully silly segue to consider probability… what’s the probability a student could… Continue reading
Empowered
…find that last sentence a wee bit bizarre? Students who are grieved when a quiz comes to an end…?!? The fact that I am giving a quiz as a privilege… a reward?!?!? Because they asked for it?!?!?!?!?!?!!! Even more fun, Socrative e-mails me a report of all of my students’ responses during the quiz, in detail. I can see what every student responded on every question. Incorrect responses are shaded red and correct ones are shaded green in the spreadsh… Continue reading
ThatQuiz.org: Pre-testing and Post-testing
…this type of assessment, but fundamentals are great for this routine. ThatQuiz generates quizzes on lots of topics, and if the one you’re hoping to assess isn’t generated by ThatQuiz, click on the “Browse” option to see if a kindred spirit out there has already created just the quiz you need. I’d love to hear how you’re using ThatQuiz with your students! Feel free to comment. 🙂 This post assumes you’ve already signed up for a free ThatQuiz.org te… Continue reading
How Socrative Changed My Warm-Ups
…es BEFORE they submit*** They also cherish the question at the end of each quiz, asking for feedback. I get all sorts of little notes and giggles that wouldn’t happen without this quiz format. I see personality in some students that are otherwise quiet… (Exhibit A… ahem, Guy on a Buffalo?!?) We’ve had to work through some bumps and bruises along the way, some of which I have blogged about before (such as, Socrative doesn’t let you navigate between… Continue reading
STAAR “Boot Camp” Standardized Test Prep With iPads!
…old students individually accountable throughout the week, I created brief quizzes using Thatquiz.org. Every other day, students had a quiz on two objectives (objectives 1 and 2 served as a quiz, objectives 3 and 4 served as the next quiz, and so on). As students quizzed individually, we teachers watched their live quiz scores from the teacher login side of thatquiz. We could click on student scores and see which problems they were missing. After… Continue reading
An Unintended “Perk”: iPads + Socrative = “The Best Review” For Exams
…was the “feedback question” I built in as the very last question of every quiz. After the 3 (multiple-choice) math questions on each quiz, question 4 was always in open-response form, asking for student questions or comments. In the “teacher-paced” format on the big screen, I chose to display the “Live Results” to Question 4 of each quiz. Student names are not revealed on the big screen, but ARE revealed in the data reports after the quiz is over… Continue reading
MS Sunday Funday – Grading (or not grading) Homework…? That is the question!
…the homework they completed throughout the week as a reference during the quiz (this would hopefully provide incentive to do it, now that actually recording a score for every assignment has been taken away). * “Grade” the “homework quiz” knowing that students have been practicing on a daily basis, have communicated with one another about the concepts, and have had reteaching classroom opportunities. Ultimately, if I opt for the “homework quiz” ph… Continue reading
