…orms or Google-y assessment tools, so, I need you to help me in this area! Desmos Classes Speaking of Desmos Activities, they are A-MAZE-ING for in-person and remote students! I created Desmos Classes when the option became available in recent months… and again… I don’t think I’m using these classes in a conventional way either, ha! I created my Desmos classes by class period, but I do not “assign” Desmos activities to integrate with Google Classr… Continue reading

Desmos Pet House: A Linear {and Not-So-Linear} Project

…ne segments on the sketch. After draft approval, students gain access to a Desmos activity where brief tutorials help them explore new graphing skills. Students recreate the draft “pet house” using linear function “code” in Desmos. As my Math 8 students explored and discovered how the mathematics they wrote impacted the math-art they created, their hunger for more math extended the due date for the final project repeatedly.  They didn’t want to st… Continue reading

Experiencing Transformations Dynamically With Nearpod and Desmos

…dents had to accurately complete and correct tables of values to “program” Desmos to graph the desired transformation. We’re working on it! Projecting students’ graphs using the Desmos “Overlay” feature is a great way to check in with the class, often revealing an OOPS or two… or, more than two… The best part about the Overlay is when students realize they need to correct their graphs, and we can all watch those corrections happening “live” and dy… Continue reading

Desmos Learning Target Student Reflections (Inspired by a Tweet)

…the link below to see a quick screencast of the results* Learning Targets Desmos After this Desmos learning targets self-assessment, I gave students a jigsaw activity on paper: 8 topics, 8 groups, one unit topic per “expert group”. For the groups that were tasked with scientific notation, classifying real numbers, and estimating square roots (topics identified as needing more work in our Desmos checklist) I let them know we’d need some extra supp… Continue reading

My First Attempt: Nearpod & Desmos Work Flow

…– SWEET! After being inspired by Michael Fenton’s work, I created several Desmos tasks, complete with tables of values and step-by-step directions right in Desmos itself. We used Nearpod “Draw It” for workflow. Students would complete a task in Desmos, take a screenshot, then submit screenshots to me in a Nearpod Draw slide. Draw slides were showcased on the big screen at the front of the room, which provided rich opportunities to compare graphs… Continue reading

Desmos Activity “Labs” – Create Your Own Card Sort

…S, SOMETIMES, NEVER   Number Properties Sort   Expressions Mash-Up   While Desmos enables users to create math/text cards, image cards, and graph cards right in the Desmos platform, you may have noticed that I like to add a level of color-coding to my card sorts.     Creating some, or even all, of the cards in Keynote, exporting the Keynote slides as images, and adding each of these images to an “image card” in Desmos gives a little more control a… Continue reading
